The RSPBA Glasgow and West of Scotland Branch is one of 5 Branches in Scotland.  It runs 8 local outdoor pipe band competitions in the following places; Kintyre, Gourock, Shotts, Bearsden, Lesmahagow, Helensburgh, Balloch and Rothesay.

While each of these 'Local' competitions is run in accordance with the the rules of the RSPBA, the competitions are planned and managed by the Branch committee.

There are 5 'Major' competitions; Scottish, British, Europeans,  Worlds and the Cowal Championships.   These are planned and run exclusively by the RSPBA at national level and nothing directly to do with the Branch.

That said, the Branch send 2 representatives to National Council and along with representatives from other branches, plan and manage the Major competitions on the day.  National Council is the body that that makes decisions about the future direction of the RSPBA.

The Branch also has two representatives  (1 drumming and 1 piping) at Music Board meetings.   It is at these meetings where recommendations to National Council are made on all subjects surrounding musical performance.

As well as stewarding the 'local' competition, the Branch Stewards also asssist at Major competitions and occasionally help out at other Branch's  competitions, as they do at ours.

At the recent Branch Annual General Meeting in December 2009, the following members (click here) were elected to serve the Branch during 2010.
